yewtube, as in https://yewtu.be/@PeterMichaelBauer/videos is also broken at the moment of this writing, because google is a monopoly that is failing and freaking out ...
But the answer I was really looking for anyway, as it turns out, is probably just Freetube -- check them out, and/or their competition over at MediaHuman. Mostly I found these better solutions by looking here at Privacyguides and in particular their "frontends" page. There is also some utility in the page on r/selfhosted called "Which YouTube alternative front-end do you prefer? Why?", and the phone-addicted among you can start researching here.
There will still sometimes be reasons to go direct to Rumble in a browser.
And maybe even YT's own venal shitty interface. yt generic
But before I knew much about any of that, this linkfarm was my own solution. Enjoy.
