I watched a few different versions of MM making this point. At the rally in Queens today, he incited the crowd to scream at the towers of Goldman-Sachs and Trump across the river, and called them the scene of the Crime. He closed it by quoting the Constitution:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty …

… and then mashed it up with the bit about “defense of the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic”, adding Especially Domestic!… It was pretty clear who, across the river, he meant.

His endorsement came hot on the heels of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s and adds to a very long list which includes everyone from Cornell West to Edward Snowden to Pamela Anderson.

Greed is the problem underneath all the others, amigos y amigas. Climate change. Income inequality. Health care via for-profit insurance companies. Most every war and most every Guatemalan kid in a cage in Texas. And capitalism is just the form of religion that elevates greed to the highest good.

Sanders isn’t a Messiah and having him as President won’t change all that, short term or even long. But he is the only one acknowledging the ugly truth of it, the only one among them who sees deeply enough into the mess to matter.
