Bit of a theme going maybe–In my own head this is very close to the Woody story from a few days ago.
In that one of the very few celebrities who sees clearly and says what they see was mistakenly let on a mainstream entertainment program (never the news, of course) and took advantage by throwing a metaphorical bomb.
Woody’s bit on SNL was strictly about the Big Pharma drug cartels.
Russell went on Real Time with Bill Maher and spoke out about censorship, and while he was at it, took apart an MSNBC shill on the panel who tried to defend his network, and failed, being reduced in the process to mumbling reflexive smugness.
Mr. Brand’s own version of events, plus amplifications, is here.
If we had a lot more of this I wouldn’t so consistently feel like just another small voice howling uselessly into the void.
So thank you to Brand and Harrelson for kicking off what I hope will become a more robust tradition of truth-telling on a slightly grander scale, with actual audiences involved. Even if those audiences are mainly just anxiously tittering because their heads are in the process of exploding.
It’ll get easier. I hope.

Bonus: On the same episode, Maher conducts a solo interview with Bernie on the side.
This is mostly useful as a reminder that there are plenty of career politicians who are capable of very effectively mouthing very good things. Marianne also proved it in her kickoff speech.
But Bernie has proven himself now as a recidivist cuck and drugstore socialist too cowed to actually DO anything about anything, if it will piss off his masters.
And Marianne … Well, she’s no more and probably less credible than the Senator. She’s a Malibu capitalist and priestess of what amounts to an Oprah-style prosperity gospel. She’d be marginally better than a Liz Warren, or a Kamala, probably, and I wish her luck with somewhat less vigor than I did getting Berned in the last two election cycles.
Sure, you go gettem, grrl. We’ll see if the Course on Miracles is the real deal, I guess …
