Shrapnel of the Blessing

The other day I linked to Bri’s great interview with Norman Finklestein. Since then he’s hit the Grayzone for another interview with the young Mr. Mate’.

Seems there’s a book tour underway. I’m glad of it. It made me think of writing one too. I already have of course. I’d just need to go back and edit some of the better pieces below into a collection. Debut folio or whatever it was I was making fun of recently.

Somewhere near the middle of this I listened as Norman told the tale of being denied tenure at DePaul after teaching there a while. That part went in a little deeper than the purely political parts. I related naturally.

Then I went to bed and dreamed of my related situation for the first time in a while. In this dream I saw the lying coward of a President and confronted her, and right after I delivered my astonishingly cool verbal smackdown I just walked away, distracted by the next thing. Two guys were filming a video.

I woke up a little later with a smile on my face.

Then in the morning I watched the last part and I smiled again, because in closing, Norman gave Aaron his sage blessing, quote:

“I read you carefully now. You do something which other people don’t do. You actually work. You’re not counting views …”

Et cetera.

I was marginally winged by the shrapnel of the blessing.

There’s plenty of other great stuff in this interview, especially if you consider yourself an actual ‘leftist’ (in contrast to a Cenk or a Bernie or maybe even a Marianne). Go watch and be winged thyself, if it please you to do.
