Frostip

At midnight there was a sudden crash of hailsnow that lasted a minute. Back to rain.

I struggled to get to sleeping but in the end the fight was a draw, eyes closing late but opening at the same time anyway. Modest progress.

Opening, the curtains too with an anticipatory flinging. There it was. The little mesquite tree dusted in white.

It’s working on 2 pm now. Two degrees above freezing, the flakes falling thicker, and then suddenly–sun. Melt. Pavement drying. Trucking through Canada, the radio called them Sunnybreaks.

Tonight the hard freeze, and then crawling back up into the forties. Next day fifties. Next day sixties, and there we hold fast into Halloween November.
