Penzance

To complete the acquisition runnings, I ran the same stretch from Rimrock to Prettytown four times today.

The two middle trips were in a big rental SUV with a large navigation screen. It was an unusual map. On the one hand, it had some serious omissions, like the fact that it didn’t seem to think tribal roads existed. But where it gave detail, it was fairly extreme detail, as in showing off place names that have never been more than stops on the rail line for water or a switch or a siding. Or: inside of towns, the name of subdivisions, which even the people of that town don’t really know or pay much attention to most of the time.

On one end of the journey there’s a rail water stop where the tracks meet the river, and the railroad called it Penzance.

It is a market town and port with a varied and interesting history, famous for its association with the Gilbert and Sullivan opera The Pirates of Penzance. Penzance is an ideal base for exploring the Penwith area of Cornwall … (so saith Wikipedia).

Except in this version there is Nothing there.
