Interview

In the middle of it all I dream again. This time I am interviewing for a job as a writer. Not of sitcoms or technical manuals or press releases. Just a Writer.

Turns out they decide in front of you. The bureaucrat who is chairing the committee takes up my demo sample. “Now here we have a piece that starts from both a generalized premise and a specific one? Is that allowed?” The question is almost rhetorical and the others around the table nod routinely with a look that says, “Yes, yes, Jerry, let’s get on with this.”

I like my chances. But what would it be like, to turn this into a job with an HR Department and a handbook and performance reviews? Perhaps it’s just as well that it’s a dream.
