I always forget.
It’s not Rim Rock, which is the name of a real townlet down towards the Verde, but Sand Rock, which is actually much more apt. Which I use as a name to stand in sometimes for the town I’m talking about.
The main references:
Author and amateur astronomer John Putnam (Richard Carlson) and schoolteacher Ellen Fields (Barbara Rush) watch a large meteorite crash near the small town of Sand Rock, Arizona.
It Came from Outer Space, 1953, via Wikipedia and Ray Bradbury
In the 1880s, a group of “Harvey Girls” – new waitresses for Fred Harvey’s pioneering chain of Harvey House restaurants – travels on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway to the western town of Sandrock, Arizona.
The Harvey Girls, 1946, with help from Judy Garland and Angela Lansbury
It doesn’t end there either but I’m a little too wiped out to go traipsing down that Internet rabbit hole this evening. Having just got back from Sand Rock.
And as I said already, going back there would be a fail. The success town was picked out on my first visit to it in 1997 and it’s over the line in New Mexico.
The She and I had plenty of time, up and back, to talk about how to get there in three years or maybe a little more. As summer ends we know less than we thought we did at the beginning of June.
This is mainly my fault.
But i am healing, probably, slow and sure, feels like. That’s three too many qualifications in two sentences.
Sometimes that’s how it spills.
